The Working Group holds regular audio conferences every two weeks, have been stable on zoom for about a month or so. We have a revolving group of attendees of around 15-20 with a core group of 8-10. There are at least 2-3 new attendees in every session. Lots of discussion on Identity and Blockchain Identity in particular. Progress on the paper had been slow, has speeded up recently with a regular work-schedule.
Less than desirable progress on paper. We have started a regular cadence on editing the paper with volunteers in each section. We need Identity experts from incubated DLTs (Fabric, Sawtooth, Iroha, Quilt, Burrow) to show up, especially to work on current practice in the document. There may be some areas of overlap between the Architecture WG, in the Identity of nodes and creating a chain of trust to Identity of transactors- we are currently collaborating on this. Happily a lot of the regular attendees are members of both Working Groups.
There are more than 280 members in the chat channel and similar numbers on the mailing list. The calls are the most active part of participation, with the chat channel and the mailing list being lightly used. We have missed very few calls in the past year (one at the most) and none last quarter. The main work product is the Identity paper, although the meeting notes and the audio recordings are available to all who are interested in the activities of the working group. In the last few months (since this is the first report from the group) we have collaborated on the GDPR paper and the Biometrics paper. We hope to collaborate more with the requirements working group to get use cases on Identity and the functional requirements for Identity in Blockchain into the paper. We also actively collaborate with the architecture working group on Privacy issues as well as with system Identity and the paper connected to that.
The second activity of the group is to be a launching pad for new initiatives connected to Identity in DLTs, most significant being the welcoming of Indy into the Hyperledger community last year. This has resulted in close collaboration between the Indy team and us, especially to report on activities on the wider world of Identity and how they could be applicable to us. These include presentations on IIW, RWOT, W3C group on Verifiable Claims, Canadian & European BC initiatives, European regulations on Identity etc.
Work on the paper has received a boost since we refocused and solicited contributions from volunteers. A vision and a solid outline are emerging. with the possibility of a draft version by the beginning of summer.
